With the advent of the internet the United States Post Office is feeling the pinch in a big way;  indicating that they are making major changes just to stay solvent.   As electronic communications become more and more prevalent; hand written communications are going the way of the dinosaur.

And actually most previous forms of communications are decreasing as internet related communication methods increases.

But wait a minute!  Here in America the internet is rapidly becoming under the control of government just like it is in other countries.  Openly communist and muslim dominated countries seem to shut down their countries’ internet service at will when ever they feel they want to.

So then if communications seem to be primarily funneled through the internet, and if the internet can be shut down at any moment…. how will the majority of people communicate during a major, disruptive,  unexpected event?  The answer is; they won’t.  That is unless alternative communication methods haven’t been established before hand.   Depending upon your situation and your needs there are various solutions to this problem.  There are CB radios, GMRS/FRS,  Marine Band,  Ham Radios and others.

Here are some considerations for choosing which one will fit your need:
Desired distance to communicate
Privacy
Terrain
Population Density
Number of people you wish to communicate with
Cost

Communications can be a critical component to your survival / sustainability package.  Give it some thought today so that you won’t be in a crisis tomorrow.
