The Bible has profoundly influenced art, literature, language and music, as well as our very understanding
of government and politics. From the Massachusetts School Law of 1647 which established our first public school so that
children could read the Bible to establishing Harvard, Yale and other great universities, the Bible has a role in American
life.
In 1940 a group of business and other professional people gathered in New York City. Their purpose
was to find hope for America while war raged in Europe. By 1941 these leaders agreed that the Bible, a proven
source of hope and encouragement throughout history, should be the focus of their efforts. They formed a group
called the National bible association and began the National Bible Week /Day.
