Real world applications to overcome
today's challenges
Why Prepare?
No preparedness program can detail every
possibility but a little bit of physical preparedness goes a long way. During an unexpected event it is much better to
modify an existing plan than to try to come up with one from scratch while you are stressed or under duress.
Do you think these people had a plan?
Obviously they didn't plan on this happening. But what if you were involved in a traffic accident where people were
injured? What if you or your family members were involved? What if it was at night in a cold and wet rural area
where there was no help available for several hours or even days? What if while you were standing outside your vehicle
a couple cars full of less than reputable individuals came along and wanted to take advantage of you in this most vulnerable
position?
No one plans to crash their vehicle and sometimes crashes are
completely unavoidable due to another's actions. But you can make a plan for what to do in case it happens to
minimize the trauma.
What are some possible
things you might need to prepare for?
Vehicle
crash or mechanical failure (safety and in some cases survival), Civil unrest, diminished supply of consumer
goods ie. food, water, etc. , natural disasters such as flood, fire, wind, etc., unexpected necessary evacuation
from your home, injury, sudden illnesses, car jacking, physical assaults, Home invasion, burglary, etc., etc.,
etc. The list obviously is infinite.
Sudan? Somalia? Haiti? No as you can see by the caption
above, this photo- graph was taken right here in America. Though it was certainly a large sig- nificant event it was isolated in a general area.
What would happen if two, three or more events like this occurred simultaneously in various parts of the country?
You definitely don't want to end up in a
shelter like these people did in the photo on the right!!
Mentally speaking every day is full of choices
to make; Spiritually our choices simply become more acute during stress. Physically there are two primary reasons for
preparedness training. One is so that you can live through an unexpected event with as little disruption as
possible; and two; so you can help others who have not prepared in these ways or those who may need immediate assistance as
the result of an unexpected event.
Below: We all remember this
Above: Russia?
Yugoslovia? The Republic of Georgia? No this is New Orleans, USA.
?
Are you prepared for a "forced"
evacuation?
Notice these interesting
pictures on the right. Do you see how the picture on the bottom has more dark areas on it then the picture on the top?
That is because this is a satellite photo taken in the evening hours of 8-14-03. On that date at approximately
4:00 PM nearly 1 million people suddenly lost their electricity. It remained off for several hours. Would you
have been prepared? What if it had been off for several days? What if someone you care for would
have experienced a medical emergency during that time period? What if the outage would have lasted for weeks or months.....
Lastly; following are some videos of what some
very knowledgeable people believe are some likely scenarios that if even partly accurate would definitely require some "solutions".
